The Art & Craft of Writing Christian Fiction is not just for writing Christian fiction. This book is an excellent resources for any genre. It covers many techniques of writing fiction and will help you excel as a writer. Although I've sold forty-one novels, I found some great ideas on the craft of wrting and will use them. Gerke not only explains the aspects of writing but also provides good examples from popular movies and fiction so that it helps the writer understand. Some of the topics covered in the book include: beginning a novel, using setting effectively, dealing with point of view, showing vs. telling, dumb puppet trick (a great resource), using description, word choices, dialogue and more.

I'll be sure and get this one, Gail. I have Jeff's ebook called, "How To Find Your Story", a great plotting tool for us character-first writers. It's a great tool, I highly recommend it.
Thanks!
I'm sure you'll find the book helpful. It's very easys to follow. I did this in Writing the Christian Romance and it seems to have worked. So many said the plain language and examples were great. This one does the same.

I'm glad that Jeff saw a need to distance himself from the narrowly targeted market of evangelicals that CBA serves. Perhaps this book will help those Christian authors who want to write beyond that market. :)
Sue - I think CBA has opened many doors to "writing real" depending on the publisher. Some remain very conservative and some much more librel in content, but yes, some writers want to write crossover books or outside the CBA market.
When I wrote Writing the Christin Romance for Writers Digest, I focused on some elements that differ in the Christian market, but most of the book is just plain old good writing technqiues -- so be hopeful. You can find many books that teach good writing.
Wishing you great stories.
Gail
